You’re spoilt with choices when dining on Hamilton Island and the fastest way to source the best of them is to ask a local. Here the team from Whitsunday Holidays reveal their foodie faves.
With such a smorgasbord of dining options on Hamilton Island, it’s handy to know which ones the locals find best. And often it’s knowing the best time of the day to experience them that makes the memory really special.
The Whitsunday Holidays team suggest Apple Mojitos at One Tree Hill or a jug of Pimms with friends at the Bommie Deck is the best way to enjoy one of Hamilton Island’s spectacular sunsets.
As a Christmas present, the entire Reservations team at Whitsunday Holidays were treated to champagne and canapés onboard Alani while cruising around the islands and they cannot stop talking about it or pouring over all the wonderful photos!
For that all important morning coffee, the team suggest a morning walk up to Passage Peak followed by a takeaway coffee (or juice) from Mariners Cafe, best enjoyed nearby at Catseye Beach.
Picking a favourite isn’t easy or simple to do but (Whitsunday Holiday’s Director) Kristie’s personal fave is Coca Chu – Asian inspired cuisine on Catseye Beach (the BBQ duck spring rolls are to die for!). Another favourite is the chilli pizza at Manta Ray Cafe for lunch or dinner – the views over the marina are beautiful and it’s the perfect place to sit and watch the boats come and go.
Special occasion? Start with a short but sweet ferry ride across to Dent Island and the Club House, perched high on the island. Let the spectacular views and magnificent food and wine lend magic to the celebrations.
The pick of what the team call “fancy pants” occasions, where you dress up and feel a bit posh, is to head to the Bommie Deck restaurant. Bommie takes its name from the Aboriginal word “bombora” in reference to the shallow, isolated and colourful reef patches that surround Hamilton Island. Pre-booking this unique fine dining experience is recommended. One thing’s for sure, you’re in for a treat.
For an indulgent treat Fishi (Hamilton Island’s fresh seafood go-to) will deliver one of their fantastic platters right to the door of your apartment or villa.
Reservations Consultant Stacey (Mum to Charli) loves grabbing some sandwiches and salads from Bob’s Bakery and finding a shady spot under a palm tree on Catseye Beach.
This family favourite takes on a new level of enjoyment on Hamilton Island. Order takeaway from Popeye’s Fish n Chips on the marina – there are plenty of picnic tables strewn along the boardwalk where you can sit and watch all the activity in the harbour. Handy Tip: Don’t take your eyes off the Cockatoos or Kookaburras as they love fish n chips too! Another option is to take a picnic blanket and find a spot on the lush cool lawn.
